Description

Pewter Badge of Edmund the Martyr – King of East Anglia, (also known as St Edmund). During the Middle Ages Edmund was regarded as the patron saint of England.

In 869, the ‘Great Heathen Army’ advanced on East Anglia and devastated the area, by tradition Edmund met his death at an unidentified place known as Haegelisdun, after he refused the Danes demand that he renounce Christ which he refused to do…. so the Danes beat him, shot him with arrows and then beheaded him. According to one legend, his head was then thrown into the forest, but was found safe by searchers after following the cries of a wolf that was calling, “Hic, Hic, Hic” – “Here, Here, Here”. (He may have simply been slain in one of the many battles).

All of these historical replica pewter badges we are proud to say, are hand crafted in small batches here in the UK. Using the finest grade of English Pewter to give the detailed clarity of design and great quality of finish.
