Description

Our Sherwood Archer pewter badge is made from very fine English pewter. 4 cm high with 2 metal push over clips.

High boots, belted pouch, hood, brace, a sheaf of arrows and bow…perhaps its Robin Hood! The clinched tunic could be mistaken for voluminous pantaloons, giving the alternative product name of ‘baggy pants archer’ here for the Sherwood Archer pewter badge.

‘Around this time, according to popular opinion, a certain outlaw named Robin Hood, with his accomplices, infested Sherwood and other law-abiding areas of England with continuous robberies’ – 1460

The earliest preserved script of a Robin Hood play dates to the 1470’s Robyn Hod and the Shryff off Notyngham. Although fragmentary it appears to tell the story of Robin Hood and Guy of Gisborne. Circumstantial evidence suggests it was probably performed at the household of Sir John Paston.
