This carving is known as The Ely Knight, it depicts a Knight seemingly at his ease or posing. He is wearing a Great Helm, in one arm he proudly holds his shield, whilst leaning on a huge axe, you can also see his sheathed sword at his side. It could be presumed that this is a famous knight of Ely that the city owes a great deal to his service and skill at arms.
